Henry Morrison Flagler Museum
The Henry Morrison Flagler Museum is located in Palm Beach, Florida. He was a founder of the Florida East Coast Railway. This building was constructed in 1902. It was an ultra-luxury mansion used as a winter retreat until his death in 1913. 「武運長久」について
予め伝えておくと、今回のブログは、内容や写真に少し過激な部分があります。 第二次世界大戦が終わったのは、1945年。日本の終戦日は8月15日ですが、アメリカでは9月2日。今まで何回か書いたことがありますが、私の祖父は、若い頃に戦争を経験しています。子供の頃、彼からよく話を聞きました。 みなさんは、「武運長久 (ぶうんちょうきゅう)」の意味を知っていますか？ これは、「戦場にいる兵士がいつまでも無事なことを祈って」という意味。戦時中、白い布に家族のメッセージと共に書いて、出征する兵士達に持たせていました。 実は数年前、フロリダのとあるミュージアムに行ったら、偶然見つけました。このミュージアムを訪れる日本人は少ないと思うので、少し紹介します。 The National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum Navy SEAL Museum, Secret world of Navy SEALs | Fort Pierce, FL. 場所はフォートピアース(Fort Pierce)の方で、ウォルト・ディズニー・ワールド・リゾートから、車で2時間半ぐらいです。ケネディ宇宙センター(Kennedy Space Center)からだと、もう少し近いかな。 このあたりは、退役軍人さん達や彼らの家族が多く住んでいます。私と夫はアメリカ生まれではないので、アメリカの歴史を知るためにも、ミュージアムに行くことにしました。ちなみに訪れた際、アジア人は私だけ。 上に載せた写真が、建物の外観や敷地内外の展示。下は、日本に関係した展示の写真です。そのまま載せるとグロテスクなので、編集しました。 私が座っている写真が、第二次世界大戦中の日本の展示エリア。左側に白いぼかしがありますが、ここに「武運長久」と書かれた布がありました。名前と家族からのメッセージが入っていて、白色ではなく赤く染まっていて… この展示を見た後、日本にある戦争関連の博物館に問い合わせをしました。持ち主の名前が書いてあったので、もしかしたら家族の方がいらっしゃるかな？と思って。返答は、「こういったものは、今でもたくさん残っています。家族も高齢になってきているので、そのまま展示させておいてください」とのことでした。 祖父が生きていたら、この写真を見せたと思います。他にも色々写真を撮りましたが、ここには一部しか載せていません。詳しく知りたい方は、個別に連絡の方をお願い致します。 今世界では、様々なところで戦争が起きています。 平和な世界になりますように… 心からそう願っています。 Photos by LILI @liliflorida on Tumblr Read more
