So, I stopped by a pawn shop when I visited St. Augustine. The shop was owned by an old couple. At first, I was looking around and I found vintage magazines.
セント・オーガスティンを訪れた時、老夫婦が経営する質屋に立ち寄りました。最初はただ見ていただけでしたが、ふと何冊か古い雑誌を発見。
I was curious and checked one by one. A moment later, I noticed that the cover of one magazine was a famous person. It took me a while to remember this guy “KEISUKE OKADA”.
急に興味が出てきて、一冊ずつ見てみました。しばらくして、ある雑誌の表紙が有名人であることに気づきました。「岡田啓介さん」を思い出すのに、少し時間がかかりましたけど。
He was an admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy, a politician and prime minister of Japan. But I wondered why his face was in an American magazine…🤔
彼は大日本帝国海軍の司令官で、政治家であり、日本の首相だった人です。でも、どうして彼の顔がアメリカの雑誌の表紙に載っているのか不思議でして…🤔
I saw the publishing year. This magazine was published on 9/1/1934. Really? Is this magazine almost 90 years old!? I was surprised.
出版された年を見たんですが、何とこの雑誌の発行日は1934年の9月1日。ホントに？これ、約90年前の雑誌なの！？とまあ、驚きました。
The magazine articles are written about the national news and general information. And one page advertises the Great Buddha of Kamakura.
雑誌の中身は、国内のニュースや一般的な情報について書かれています。そして、あるページには、鎌倉大仏の広告が掲載されています。
However, World War II started 5 years after this magazine was published…
でも、この雑誌が発行された5年後に、第二次世界大戦が始まるとは…
