What do you do to improve your sleep?

Consistent sleep schedules and daily routines are essential. For example,

  • Turn off or reduce time spent using electronic devices before going to bed

  • Listen to classical music

  • Use pillow sprays

  • Make a comfortable space to sleep (e.g., light, mattress, and room temperature)

I have been traveling between Florida and Japan. There is a 13-hour (sometimes 14-hour) time difference. After returning to Florida, I can’t sleep well due to jet lag.

Last time, I was lucky. When I took the international flight, my next seat was empty. I was able to relax during the long flight. While on the way back from California to Florida, the young couple sat next to me and talked loudly. To be honest, I didn’t feel comfortable. I kept the in-flight screen on, but they said to me, “Could you turn it off? It’s too bright!”

I didn’t want to, but I turned it off. Then, I fell into sleep. The flight was at night, and I was very tired.

I often use the pillow mist. I get “Aromatherapy Pillow Mist with Natural Essential Oils” at Bath and Body Works.

Thank you for sharing your thoughtful experiences and practical tips for improving sleep. I especially appreciated how you combined helpful advice with real-life travel experiences, making your reflections both informative and relatable.

Traveling between Japan and Florida with such a significant time difference is no small challenge, and your honesty about dealing with jet lag and the realities of long flights adds an authentic touch. Your experience reminds us that quality sleep often depends not only on routines but also on unexpected circumstances.

Thank you. Well, I am not a good advisor (I have sleeping disorders) … I think using five senses (sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch) is an effective way to fall asleep 🙂

Thank you for sharing that. 😊 I hope you’re able to find more restful nights ahead.

I really like your perspective about engaging the five senses. It gently brings the mind into the present moment and away from the endless stream of thoughts that can keep us awake. Sometimes the simplest approaches are the most effective.

I can relax with the smell of wood and mint. I usually buy the mist of eucalyptus and spearmint, specializing in stress relief 🙂
