My Fifth Week in Japan

How are you, everyone?

Last Thursday, I met my friend. We studied in the same high school.

We went to a Nepalese restaurant together. The food was delicious.

I have been to Indian restaurants. In my hometown, chefs in Indian restaurants are mostly Nepalese. Why? Nepalese and Indian foods are different, right?

We talked about classmates in the restaurant. It has been over 25 years since we graduated. I think they were unique people.

For example, one student hitchhiked to school. Another student threw his train pass on the tracks. Also, a male student got a driver’s license and drove to school a week before graduation. The school didn’t allow students to drive, so the teacher suspended him. He couldn’t attend the graduation ceremony with us.

We studied with many male students (over 90% male). They were teenagers, so sometimes they became wild (and crazy). Every morning, a teacher was standing at the entrance of the high school with a bamboo sword.

In 2005, I returned to school as a teacher trainee. This time, I visited for the first time in 20 years.

Many Nepali’s come down to India for work. They make really good food.

Yes, recently I have seen Nepali restaurants, but not many yet. I ordered the mushroom and scallop curry. It was not authentic (taste for Japanese), but I liked it. 😊

That’s great to hear they’re opening their own restaurants. Hopefully they offer their own food.
