Baskin-Robbins is well-known as 31 in Japan. It is a popular ice cream parlor in the U.S. and I often visit.

Baskin-Robbins has a long history as an ice cream parlor. In 1945, it opened its first location in California. It quickly gained popularity because it offered 21 different flavors, which was rare at the time, and provided a service that allowed customers to add toppings as they liked. Within four years of its opening, it had already become a popular ice cream parlor with over 40 locations.

The name “Baskin-Robbins” comes from the two founders, Baskin and Robbins. Also, today people call it Thirty-One in Japan because the number “31” is designed in pink on the BR.

It is said to include the meaning that customers can taste 31 different flavors, but I found that there were more and less 31 flavors when I actually went to one of the parlors. Last time I counted and there were 32 different flavors. (This location later closed… I cried.😖)

By the way, “Vanilla” and “Oreo Cookies” are ranked in the top five of popular flavors in the U.S. And “Mint Chocolate” and “Strawberry Cheesecake” are ranked in the top five of popular flavors in Japan.

The other day, I was watching a K-pop idol show with English subtitles. They were talking about whether they liked or disliked “Mint Chocolate Flavor.”

I am a fan of it, but if I could choose another flavor, it would be “Rum Raisin.” It’s just a personal preference. I eat ice cream when I want to cool down and make myself happy. 😊
