What will your life be like in three years? I don’t know…

I want to return to my hometown as soon as possible.

As an only child, I should follow my family tradition.

I promised with my grandpa. He said to me, “You are the first grandchild. Don’t forget that you have family in Japan.” He passed away on my mom’s (his daughter’s) birthday. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence.

I left Japan in 2008. I am still a Japanese citizen and keep a Japanese family name. My kids have Japanese (and American) nationality.

In my hometown, I plan to work as a teacher. I have teacher certification, a master’s degree in education (I finished it in America), and teaching experience.

But in reality, age discrimination is common in Japan. I also have to think about my husband’s job.

About 16 years ago, I came to America alone. I didn’t worry about anything then.

I found some old photos.
