I have been abroad for almost 18 years (living about 17 years in America and about 1 year in Spain). I left Japan in my 20s, and now I am over 40. I am definitely not young, so I started thinking about my retirement. I am seriously thinking that I plan to go back to Japan in the next 10 years. My parents are getting older, and I don’t have siblings.
私の海外生活も、もうすぐ18年になろうとしています（アメリカに約17年、スペインに約1年在住）。20代で日本を離れて、今は40歳を過ぎました。まあ、若いとは言えない年齢なので、老後について考えるようになりました。今後10年以内に、日本に帰ろうと本格的に考えているところです。両親も高齢になってきてるし、私には兄弟がいないためです。
I often watch YouTube videos. Yesterday, I was watching videos about Japanese old houses and I thought suddenly, Why are these houses so beautiful and nice…?
私はよくYouTubeの動画をみます。昨日、日本の古民家のビデオをみてて、ふと思ったこと、「古民家って、どうしてこんなにきれいで素敵なんだろう…？」と。
Honestly I didn’t think like that when I was in Japan. Perhaps I was young then, so I was not interested in old houses…
正直言うと、日本にいた頃はそんな風に思ったことがありません。たぶん、当時は若かったから、古い家に興味が無かったんだろうな…
Well, again, I say I am over 40 now. I don’t need a big house and a mansion. I want to live in a small house. Moreover, I want to live as a minimalist. I don’t care how old the house is or even if the house is haunted. (My eldest daughter and I like watching paranormal videos. I believe that rebirth will happen after death. So I’m not afraid of ghosts…)
繰り返しになりますが、私は今40代。大きな家も豪邸もいりません。小さな家に住みたいです。出来れば、ミニマリストとして暮らしたい。古い家でも、幽霊が出る家でも構いません。（長女と私は、心霊動画を見るのが好きです。というのも、私は輪廻転生を信じているので、幽霊を怖いと思わず…)
After watching videos, I was searching for houses in Japan. There are many houses available for less than $35,000. These houses are mostly located in the countryside.
ビデオを見た後、日本の家を探しました。500万円($35,000)以下で買える家がたくさんあります。家のほとんどは、都市部から離れたところになりますけど。
I want to live in the Tōkai region(Aichi, Gifu, Mie and Shizuoka) because my hometown is Aichi prefecture. Aichi-ken is an industrial area (especially Toyota) and so many foreign people live there. Mostly, foreigners come from Brazil, Peru, China and South Korea.
出身が愛知県なので、東海地方（愛知、岐阜、三重、静岡）に住みたいと思ってます。愛知県は産業が盛んで(特にトヨタ自動車)、たくさんの外国人が住んでいます。ブラジル、ペルー、中国、韓国出身者が多いかな。

I continue to find property in Japan. My husband and I know how to fix holes in the walls, paint the walls and install a new door. We actually did DIY when we bought the current house in Florida.
今後も、日本の物件を探すつもりです。壁の穴を直したり、壁をペンキで塗ったり、新しいドアを設置する方法は分かります。フロリダで今の家を買った時も、自分達で修理しました。
Our current house was built in 1954 and renovated in 1959. It is old, but I haven’t seen ghosts. 😅 The problem we have now is a roof. We will need to replace the roof this year. Of course, we can’t repair the roof ourselves.💦
この家は1954年に建てられて、1959年に改築。とまあ、古いんですが、今まで幽霊を見たことはありません。😅今修理が必要なのは、家の屋根。今年中に、屋根を全て入れ替えないといけません。さすがに、屋根の修理は自分達で出来ず。💦
Buying a house is a major decision.
家を買うというのは、大きな決断です。
As the other option, how about living with my parents?
他の選択肢として、両親との同居は？
We have not lived together for a long time. I think it is better for both of us not to live together…also, I have 4 children.
長い間、一緒に暮らしていないので、お互いのためにも同居しない方がいいと思うんですが…しかも、4人の子供がいるので(親に迷惑がかかる)。
I will talk to my parents when I return to Japan next time.🙂
次回、日本へ帰った時に、親と話してみます。🙂
