Have you ever been camping?

Yes, my middle school had field trips. I went camping with classmates and teachers.

I shared the tent with friends. We cooked, danced, and slept together. We also did a test of courage (Kimodameshi 肝試し in Japanese).

Do you know Kimodameshi? At night, a group of people visits a cemetery, haunted house, or secluded forest path to carry out specific missions.

All students were paired up. I went to the dark forest with the male student. He said to me first, “It is an easy mission!”

We walked together, but he was scared. He grabbed my arm. I was not scared at all. I was scared of natural disasters and heights.

It was a fun trip.

This is such a warm and engaging memory, full of life and personality.

What stands out most is how naturally you bring the experience to life—the shared tent, cooking, dancing, and that mix of excitement and simplicity that comes with school trips. It feels nostalgic without trying too hard.

The Kimodameshi part adds a really fun cultural touch. The contrast is especially charming—you being calm while your partner, who claimed it was “easy,” ends up holding onto your arm. That small moment says so much and adds a bit of humor and character to the story.

Thank you 🙏 To say more details, we had a small fight before going to the dark forest. He said to me, “Why you?” I got irritated, so I said to him, “I don’t want to go with you either!” We had known each other since elementary school. We casually talked like that. How many years ago? It was when I was 13, so 30 years ago. We also danced and sang surrounded by the campfire. We didn’t eat s’mores… 🍫🔥😄

That actually sounds like one of those memories that sticks for all the right reasons—messy, a little dramatic, and then somehow warm by the end.

That “Why you?” / “I don’t want to go with you either!” exchange feels so real, especially between people who’ve known each other that long. There’s a kind of comfort in being able to snap a little and still stay connected.
