In Japan, the age of adulthood was 20 years old. After 2022, it was lowered from 20 to 18 years old. Coming of Age Day (成人の日) is a public holiday, and an official ceremony is held every January.
I attended this ceremony before I turned 20 because my birthday is in February. I didn’t feel any difference between 19 and 20, and my female friend got married soon after she graduated from high school.
In general, girls are more mature than boys. In Latin America, celebrating a girl’s 15th birthday is called Quinceañera. In America and Canada, celebrating a girl’s 16th birthday is called Sweet Sixteen. 16 years old is not an adult legally, but many people can start getting jobs, driving, and dating.
I started working as a part-time employee (I was a high school student) at McDonald’s when I was 16.
I got a driver’s license (the minimum driving age is 18 in Japan) at 19, and bought the first car two months later. I think I shared this photo before. Toyota Starlet (of course, used car) ↓

My eldest daughter will graduate from elementary school next year. She is growing taller than me. 😅
She likes Karate and will participate in the tournament next month.
I am always telling her to be honest (don’t tell a lie to me). I am not a strict mom. I understand how the mother-daughter relationship is complicated.
Yesterday, she said to me, “Mama, thank you.”.
…Why?
She reads my blog every day and sometimes checks English grammar. Haha🤣

How about mathematics (she agreed to share the score)?

Her mathematics scores have usually been better than reading scores, but not this time.
The new semester started two months ago. She will take other tests soon.
Good luck! 😉
