I don’t know well what kindness is…
I think being kind is difficult. Because everyone is different. If I think my act is kind, others may not feel the same.
For example,
〇 I thought saying “Hi” to strangers is greeting in my native country (Japan), but I should not do it in foreign countries. I did before, and my bags were stolen.
〇 I have been in America for a long time, so I often say “No”. But sometimes I feel guilty. Well, it depends on the situation.
〇 I always return my shopping cart to the store after using it. But this is not an act of kindness in America (in Florida).
〇 After eating at a restaurant, I stack my plates for the restaurant staff. I am a former restaurant worker, so I know. But someone asked on Reddit. Restaurant and catering services may be different.

→ Do waiters actually want people to stack their plates?

Two weeks ago, I got a thank-you letter from the Japanese hotel where I stayed with my family in June.
I answered the survey and complimented the hotel staff. Do you think I did something special?
For me, sending a thank-you letter to the hotel guest is kindness and Omotenashi (Japanese hospitality). The stamp is not free…
