I know many people lost their jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of my friends lost and quit their jobs in the hospitality industry.
I have teaching experience in the classroom and online. Before the Covid-19 pandemic started in the U.S., I finished my graduate school. So I didn’t have any changes, but other students had problems. Because they couldn’t do the teaching practice which is required to graduate. I heard that the school made some changes.
Soon after graduating, I had more job opportunities. Many institutions were looking for experienced foreign language teachers who could teach on online platforms. I got other jobs from two institutions at different times. These jobs were contract positions. I wanted to have more experience, so I had 2 jobs and worked not only as a teacher but also as a learning content creator.
After the Covid-19 pandemic, I have not seen a lot of foreign language teaching job vacancies. I think some language related jobs have been replaced by technology. Also, experienced foreign language teachers have been working as freelancers.
So far, I am okay. I became a minimalist during the Covid-19 pandemic. I have basic needs for living now…
