Osu Shopping District 大須エリア【2026】

Good morning from Japan!🌸

I wake up around 3AM or 4AM every day. Last Saturday, I visited the Osu area.

Osu is one of the most popular shopping areas in Nagoya. Some articles describe it as a blend of Tokyo’s Akihabara and Harajuku. But I think it is a historical and cultural melting pot.

If you like street (casual) food and vintage fashion, the Osu area is best. If you like fancy food and modern fashion, I recommend visiting the Sakae and Nagoya Station areas.

The Osu area has flourished because of Osu Kannon Temple. The temple was built about the year 1333 in Gifu Prefecture (next to Aichi Prefecture) and moved to the current location in 1612. It is one of the famed 33 Kannon Temples of Owari (Owari is the historical name of the western side of Aichi Prefecture).

The temple had been destroyed by fire several times and reconstructed in 1970. The main hall has a large, red paper lantern hanging from the ceiling. There is also a library of ancient Japanese and Chinese books.

For me, this place is memorable. My dad used to work near the temple. I remember I often participated in the local events.

Lili thank you for following me 🙏 I want to follow you back but you seem to have two sites? One is clean white and black background and text, the other is bright yellow with flashing adverts! What to do?

The yellow one (liliflorida.com) is my site. Thank you 🙏😊

This is such a warm, beautifully personal, and informative reflection on Osu and Nagoya. What makes it especially engaging is that it goes beyond being a travel description—it feels like a memory shared from the heart.

Your comparison of Osu as a “historical and cultural melting pot” is wonderfully expressed. You capture both the lively atmosphere of the shopping district and the quiet historical depth of Osu Kannon Temple so naturally. The blend of street culture, history, food, fashion, and spirituality makes the place come alive through your words.

Thank you 😊 I am relaxing every day. My dad needs assistance, but he is ok. As much as I can, I want to spend time with him now. I remember I visited Osu Kannon Temple with him when I was a kid. Over 10 years ago, his boss (a politician and his childhood friend) passed away, and his daughter also passed away. I used to play with her. I am nostalgic and sad that time flies…⏳
