Write about your dream home.

What does your ideal home look like? – LILI EN FLORIDA

I want to get another property that is small and surrounded by nature.

I signed up for the akiya banku (空き家バンク), which is a database of abandoned and old houses in Japan. I have received real estate information by email. They are located in rural areas.

For example, this is 1200000 yen (=$7884). ↓

I am not afraid of ghosts. 😅

I want to spend time with my daughter and son for a long time. Each year I meet her for a few days in Munich. After my retirement in 2026. I want to some time with them.

2026 is very soon 😊. I want to see my dad. He has dementia. I plan to visit Japan in May and stay with him longer than usual. 😉

    Wow
Maybe you in a group of close friends could buy this together.
Maybe get a lawyer to do some paperwork for you and you could all share the expenses.
    Just some ideas.
This is a beautiful dream home. And I guess if it’s a dream home you wouldn’t want to share.
    Very beautiful.

    Hahaha😂😂😂

Many people believe that old houses (and cities) are haunted.

I’m not afraid of ghosts because I like history and lost my friends and family members in the past.

Have you ever seen a ghost?

I think I saw a ghost in St. Augustine, FL. I stayed at a hotel near historical sites. At 6 a.m., I suddenly woke up and looked at the window. I saw a black mist moving behind the curtain.

I was sleepy then, so I didn’t think anything. 😴

Seriously, the Japanese population is decreasing. Young people tend to move to the cities, so the rural communities give free land and houses to newcomers.

I am a minimalist. If there are 2 toilets, a supermarket or convenience store, and kids’ schools nearby, I will be OK.

    I don’t know what my kids think…😅

その古い家はとても安いだと思います。でも日本人だけ買えただと思います。How to say ‘only japanese people can buy it?’ ie japanese citizen?

I think Japanese and Japanese citizen are the same meaning. Probably Japanese is an ethnicity, and a Japanese citizen is someone who has legal status. The government doesn’t allow holding dual citizenship (nationality). So, I am a Japanese citizen and American permanent resident (not citizen).

Foreigners can buy real estate in Japan. In fact, many Chinese investors own real estate properties. The difference in the process between Japanese and foreign buyers is the types of documents (depending on your residency) they submit.

Also, for foreigners, getting a loan/mortgage approval is hard. My Dutch friend said so.

Opening a bank account is allowed only for Japanese residents. So, the last option is buying a house with cash.

I attached two website links below that explain in English. 😉 ↓

It’s ok. I didn’t expect such an in-depth reply. Thank you for explaining to me very well. Did I read correctly that one of the old houses was only 8000 USD? Did you miss a few zeros on the number?

      2. LILI FLORIDA Avatar

Yes, $8000 is correct. US$1=152 Japanese yen today. 古いから、安いです。😅

I could most likely afford it, but the logistics of getting around Japan, and the fact that I can’t drive. I saved money on a pension when my parents still lived in this house, before they moved out to a better one they built up.
